The mother of an NHS nurse who was killed by coronavirus has begged families not to 'go crazy' and meet up this Christmas because 'this virus is still a killer.' Rebecca Mack, 29, died at her home in Morpeth, Northumberland in April after she began to display symptoms of the virus. The nurse, who had previously worked in the children's cancer unit at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary, lived alone and was self-isolating when her symptoms took a turn for the worse. She called for an ambulance and left her door open for their arrival, but Ms Mack was found dead by paramedics inside her home.  Tests later confirmed the nurse had coronavirus, her family told the Chronicle.   Rebecca Mack (left with her father Alan right), 29, died at her home in Morpeth, Northumberland in April after she began to display symptoms of the virus Her mother Marion, 60, has now warned those celebrating Christmas to show their families love by 'staying away and not getting too close

Betrayal of care home families: Firms are STILL refusing to let desperate visitors hug their elderly loved ones despite government rollout of rapid tests to allow Christmas visits

Distraught families told they could hug loved ones in care homes at Christmas fear a 'betrayal' by officials. A string of councils and major care home groups are refusing to follow new national rules stating that everyone should get meaningful visits from their families.  Some people have already been told they can't see relatives in care over the festive period – not even to wave at them through a window. With less than two weeks until Christmas, Boris Johnson's pledge that all care home residents will be able to hug loved ones by then hangs in the balance.  Sarah Jackson with her mother Mary Garbe. COVID-weary New Yorkers shell out $100 each for 90-minute alcohol-fueled hot tub parties in boats on the Hudson River, despite rocketing virus cases

New Yorkers weary of coronavirus restrictions are paying hundreds of dollars for boozy boat parties on the Hudson River, complete with hot tubs, despite rocketing cases in the city.  The high-risk party people are splashing out for BYOB cruises, bringing coolers filled with beer and wine to drink whilst they sail past The Statue of Liberty, with tours 'sold out' in November and bookings still coming in.  But while the owner insists that the cruises are COVID-safe, they may be in violation of New York's social distancing guidelines.  On Friday the NYC department of health registered 3313 new COVID cases, and 29 deaths. The seven-day average for cases is now the highest it has been since April. The hot tub boat tours are run by water sports company Sea the City.  The extra-wide aluminum catamaran was custom-built by a company in Albany and features two 600-gallon tubs. They feature bathrooms and changing rooms on board. Prices start at $349 for two people on weekdays, or $1,8

Australian mathematician reveals how he cracked the Zodiac Killer's coded message 50 years after the murderer went on a spree that killed five people in San Francisco

A Melbourne code-breaker bored by the COVID-19 lockdown has cracked a 50-year-old riddle left by the infamous Zodiac Killer. The infamous serial killer murdered at least five people in northern California, U.S, during 1968 and 1969. The Zodiac was never caught despite  sending a series of taunting letters and word puzzles to San Francisco newspapers up until 1974. Some were accompanied by bloodied fragments of clothing as proof. The Zodiac's infamous 340 Cipher sent to the San Francisco Chronicle in 1969, accompanied by the 'Dripping Pen card'  One of the four ciphers was solved in 1969, in which the Zodiac said he was killing people to collect as slaves for the afterlife.  The remaining three cryptograms have captivated amateur sleuths for more than 50 years in the hope that solving them may lead to the identity of the killer. Melbourne mathematician Samuel Blake along with two other code breakers from the U.S and Belgium have now cracked the 340 Cipher, a 340-character

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has given a 'shout out' to her 'fellow radicals' on Instagram this week, calling for an 'advanced society' while preparing salmon pasta from Whole Foods in a $58 shirt she sells on her webstore. Ocasio-Cortez, 31, hosted an Instagram Live to update people on progress of a second COVID relief bill. She complained about 'the system' of which she is part, and criticized 'huge conglomerate employers sending you in harm's way and being completely immune from any accountability for it.'  And she railed against a system which left workers 'under the thumb of a $7 minimum wage'.  The congresswoman, who won reelection last month, wore a sweatshirt with the slogan 'tax the rich' for the video - a week after it emerged she was selling the garment for $58 on her webstore. AOC, who enjoys a six-figure congressional income, had been slammed for the hefty price tag, with some saying it would only actually be affordab

Two LA sheriff's deputies who were involved in fatal shooting of 18-year-old outside auto shop are suspended over unrelated car crash eight months ago

The two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies involved in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Andres Guardado have been suspended this week for their role in an unrelated car crash that took place two months before the June incident. Sheriff Alex Villanueva relieved Deputies Miguel Vega and Chris Hernandez of duty this week pending the outcome of an investigation into the April 13 crash, according to the Los Angeles Times. The decision to suspend the deputies eight months after the crash incident raises questions as to the timing and whether the sheriff had enough information to remove them before the Guardado shooting. On April 13 just before 5pm, Vega was driving with a man in custody in the back seat of a patrol car when he started to chase someone on a bicycle that was suspected of carrying a gun, the deputy told California Highway Patrol.
