Aston Villa make £19m offer for Lyon winger Bertrand Traore as Dean Smith bids to bolster attacking options

Aston Villa are in talks with Lyon over a £19million deal for Bertrand Traore. Villa, who have had an offer accepted for Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and remain in discussions with Werder Bremen for attacking midfielder Milot Rashica, had earlier been rebuffed in a £15.7m bid for Traore but have returned with an improved offer. Fulham, Crystal Palace and Leicester also hold an interest in the former Chelsea flyer with Lyon ready to sell the 25-year-old. Traore played 35 matches last season, mainly on the right wing, and scored four goals, adding five assists. He wants to leave though after finding himself frozen out of their Champions League finish last season and spending more time on the bench. He is keen to join Villa and is excited by the prospect of a return to England. Aston Villa are have entered talks with Lyon over a £19million deal for Bertrand Traore

Pompeo arrived late on Friday in Doha, ahead of an opening ceremony on Saturday for the peace talks aimed at ending two decades of war that has killed tens of thousands of combatants and civilians. The opening ceremony came one day after the 19th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks on the United States that triggered American military involvement in Afghanistan.  The intra-Afghan negotiations grew out of a U.S.-Taliban agreement in February, which outlined the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan by May 2021 in exchange for peace guarantees and Taliban promises to open negotiations with the Afghan government, which the group had previously refused.  Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrives in Doha to take part in Intra-Afghan negotiations in Doha, Qatar on September 11, 2020 Pompeo arrived late on

'Stop clapping, start paying’: NHS workers who fought on the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic take part in mass protests across the country demanding better wages

Frontline NHS workers, many of whom have been helping to fight the coronavirus pandemic, have protested to demand better wages. Campaigners in central London, many wearing scrubs or other NHS uniforms, held banners which read 'stop clapping, start paying,' 'priceless yet penniless' and '640 healthcare workers dead, blood on their hands' alongside images of Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Demonstrators began a march to Trafalgar Square after a two-minute silence in honour of 640 healthcare workers who have died during the pandemic. The protest comes after nurses were excluded from the wage increase for around 900,000 public sector workers announced in July because they are in the final year of a three-year agreement.
