Duchess of Cambridge follows family tradition

The Duchess of Cambridge has at long last decided to take on more public duties by agreeing to become patron of three charities. Kate, 31, who is expecting her first child in July, will support and carry out public engagements on behalf of Place2Be, SportsAid and The Natural History Museum. It is traditional for members of the Royal Family to take on charitable patronages in the UK as part of their public work. In effect, they become a figurehead for that organisation which can, particularly in the Duchess’s case, have an enormous effect on its public profile and ability to fundraise. Since she married Prince William two years ago, organisations the length and breadth of the country have clamoured to get the glamorous royal on board. But Kate has resisted calls for her take on a large number of patronages - the Queen Mother, for example, represented more than 800 charities at the time of her death - in favour of selecting a handful that she feel she can get to know intimately. She fee

FBI photos ignite frenzied search for the suspected Boston bombers' baseball caps

FBI photos of two men suspected in the Boston Marathon bombings were released on Thursday, prompting an eager public to take the investigation into its own hands. Internet users immediately began scrutinizing the mens' clothing and backpacks on Reddit, and within minutes, one user had identified the cap on one of the suspects as a Bridgestone Golf hat, available at Walmart.com for $14.99. The black hat has distinct white markings and a logo above the brim that looks identical to the Bridgestone hat. Same hat? How I'll weed out the health tourists, by Hunt

Foreigners travelling to Britain to take advantage of our free health service will be denied treatment under radical plans for a shake-up of the system of personal NHS identification numbers. Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt wants only permanent British residents to qualify for anything other than emergency care free of charge. He believes non-UK residents are granted NHS numbers – which entitle them to free care – far too easily. In many cases, anyone who turns up at a GP surgery is given a number. On referral to hospital, no further questions about their entitlement are asked – meaning that ‘health tourists’ or those who have fallen ill unexpectedly while in this country are given unlimited free access to the NHS, Government sources say. Mr Hunt said the system was ‘completely unacceptable’. He has proposed that in future, anyone with a ‘questionable’ residency status should be issued with only a temporary NHS number. It would mean that if they tried to access anything other than accide
