Bus crash kills 24, South African authorities say 24 people died when a bus veered off a road and rolled over. The accident happened Friday morning near De Doorns, a town in a grape-growing region near Cape Town. Keri Davids, a spokeswoman for the health department of the Western Cape provincial government, says the dead include 22 females and two males. South African media say the passenger bus was heading to Cape Town when the driver lost control.

Just days before jury selection was set to begin, Broward prosecutors dismissed aggravated child abuse charges against a Cooper City couple on Friday, according to Broward officials. Having lost their children to foster care, their jobs with the Broward County School District, their home to foreclosure and their car to repossession, Darren Jones, 44, and his wife Serena, 43, faced state prison time for the alleged beating of their 16-year-old daughter in early 2011. "We believed that the Lord would vindicate us," Darren Jones told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel in a telephone interview late Friday. "This was just a light affliction. I have no right to be angry at one solitary person." His wife, Serena, agreed. Abusive parents charged with murdering 18-month-old daughter

 Abusive parents charged with murdering 18-month-old daughter, Two parents from Tucson were arrested and jailed Thursday on child abuse charges after they called authorities to report that one of their 18-month-old twins was not breathing. That couple, Kristepher Benavidez, 25, and Monique Gaxiola, 30, are now facing murder charges in the death of their infant daughter, KVOA in Tuscon reported on March 15. Emergency Medical Technicians from the Tucson Fire Department first went to the couple’s home on Wednesday after receiving the call that the baby girl wasn’t breathing. The EMTs transported the infant to the hospital and also contacted the Tucson Police Department.     Medical staff notified police that the child had non-accidental injuries. The baby girl died Friday as a result of her injuries. Police eventually found the infant’s twin and her 7-year-old sister staying with neighbors.
