Topless Kate photos: Three could face charges for topless pics

Topless Kate photos: Three could face charges for topless Kate Middleton pics. Three people are currently under investigation and could face charges for the topless Kate Middleton photos that have found their way out into the open. Today.com reported on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, that the head of a French publishing group, a daily newspaper director, and a photographer could have charges brought against them for the topless Kate photos published in a handful European tabloids in 2012.

Prince William's wife was sunbathing on the terrace of a chateau in the south of France when the pictures were first taken. "Closer," a French gossip magazine about celebrities, published the photos back in Sept. of 2012.

French authorities banned any further publication or resale of the topless Kate photos. In Oct. of 2012, the criminal investigation officially began to find out how the pictures were gotten in the first place.

The photos showed Kate Middleton slipping off her bikini top, relaxing out on a sun lounger, and then pulling down the bottom of her bikini a little bit. All of the photos were taken from a decent distance away. Neither the Duchess of Cambridge or Prince William could

Baby sold on Facebook: For 0.8 Million Rupees by Indian Men

Baby sold on Facebook, when this phrase "baby sold on Facebook" starts trending today, than that means things are just getting out of hand in the world. A report from Yahoo India News on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, tells of a newborn Indian baby that was sold to a businessman for Rs 800,000. As if that wasn't bad enough, the baby was sold on Facebook.

Believe it or not, some reports state that the baby was sold twice before the final deal was agreed upon on Facebook.

The child, born in a Ludhiana hospital, was sold on Facebook by the infant's grandfather. He actually told his daughter that the baby was stillborn, but then sold the child to a nurse for Rs 45,000.

From there, the nurse took the child to a hospital attendant and sold the baby for Rs 300,000. At that point, the hospital attendant put the child up for sale one more time and sold the baby on Facebook.

Facebook is where the businessman, based out of Delhi, finished off the sale to take "ownership" of the infant.

There was a police raid at the businessman's home and that resulted in the recovery of the baby sold on Facebook. Police believe that this is only the beginning of a huge child-trafficking issue and they believe that there are tens of thousands of children trafficked out of India every single year.

The raid on the businessman's home ended up bringing about the arrests of five different people involved in the multiple deals for the baby. Those arrests include the grandfather and one more person that was unnamed.

Topless Kate photos charges: French executive, photographer charged

Topless Kate photos charges, have been filed against two people one of them is publisher of french magazine they are charged over the publication of topless photos of Kate Middleton, it is being reported today (Wednesday). A source tells the AFP News Agency
Ernesto Mauri, the CEO of Mondadori Group which publishes Closer Magazine, and an unnamed photographer from the regional daily La Provence are facing criminal charges in connection with the September 2012 royal scandal. Both are reportedly accused of "invasion of privacy."

The topless photos of the Duchess of Cambridge were first published in France's Closer magazine before being picked up by several other European tabloids. The photos of Kate Middleton without her bikini top on were taken while the royal couple was enjoying a private vacation at a private chateau in southern France.
Kate MIddleton topless photos result in charges

The photos were published while the couple was on their Far East Diamond Jubilee tour later that month. The release of the pictures is said to have deeply embarrassed the Duchess of Cambridge and infuriated Prince William who is fiercely protective of the couple's privacy.

Almost immediately after the photos were released Prince William vowed to hold those responsible and now, seven months later, it appears the wheels of justice are starting to move in that direction.

Topless Kate photos charges: Two Men Charged for Topless photos

Topless Kate photos charges, The publisher of a French celebrity magazine was placed under formal investigation for breach of privacy over the publication of topless pictures of Britain's Duchess of Cambridge, a judicial source said.

The photographer who snapped the pictures of the Duchess, or Kate Middleton, in the summer last year and a regional daily were also put under investigation, the last step in France before being charged, the source said.

Closer magazine, a weekly round-up of celebrity gossip, published in September a series of photos of the Duchess, the wife of Prince William, topless on holidays in southern France, something that incensed much of the British public.

The photos showed the Dutchess slipping off her bikini top, relaxing on a sun lounger and at one point pulling down the back of her bikini bottoms.

Buckingham Palace had called the photo spread a "grotesque" invasion of the royal couple's privacy.

The publisher of the magazine - the French branch of Italy's Mondadori - and the paparazzi who snapped the photos from a distance were put under formal investigation earlier this month, the judicial source said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

One news reported Mondadori in a statement said the company "was not aware of any new developments in addition to what is already known on this matter".

The regional daily La Provence, which published pictures of Prince William and his wife in swimming suits during the same holiday, was put under formal investigation this week, the source said.

An investigation does not necessarily lead to formal charges.

The office of Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge could not be reached for comment.

Topless Kate photos charges

Topless Kate photos charges, the head of major publishing-group and a photographer were charged this month over the publication of intimate photos of Prince William's wife Catherine, sources said.

The photos - some of them of the former Kate Middleton topless - were printed in two separate publications in September, causing a huge furore and leading to the royal couple launching legal proceedings in France.

According to sources close to the case, the head of the Mondadori Group - the publisher of glossy magazine Closer where the topless shots were printed - and a photographer at regional daily La Provence, were both charged.

Judges in the Paris suburb of Nanterre charged the photographer with "invasion of privacy" for taking photos of the former Kate Middleton in a swimsuit while she was on holiday in the south of France with her husband.

Those shots were published in La Provence. But the most intimate shots showing the Duchess of Cambridge topless and having suncream rubbed into her buttocks by William were published in Closer.

Judges are still investigating who took those photos.

Ernesto Mauri, the chief executive of Mondadori, was meanwhile also charged with "invasion of privacy" for having let the topless shots be published.

The pictures were taken while the couple sunned themselves on the terrace of a chateau in the south of France.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge launched legal proceedings as soon as they were published, and French authorities promptly banned Closer from any further publication or resale of the topless pictures, while launching a criminal probe into how they were obtained.

The couple's lawyer, Aurelien Hamelle, told an injunction hearing in September that the images of William and his wife were of "a highly intimate moment" in the life of a young married couple that had no place on the cover of a magazine.

The lawyer also argued that the images were particularly distressing for the couple in light of William's mother Princess Diana's 1997 death in a car that crashed in a Paris tunnel while being pursued by paparazzi.

Local newspaper La Provence published pictures of the royal couple at the chateau on September 7 but denied that its photographer had taken the topless images.

3-year-old Tsarnaev daughter, wife and Tamerlan received welfare benefits (Video)

3-year-old Tsarnaev daughter, of alleged terrorist Tamerlan Tsarnaev left behind a 3-year-old daughter, and a wife who had converted to Islam to marry the Boston bomber. The 26-year-old Chechen, who was shot dead by police last week, was seen regularly at the home of Katherine Russell's family in Rhode Island with her little daughter Zahara. According to the Boston Herald's report on April 24, Tamerlan was receiving welfare benefits along with his wife, Katherine Russell Tsarnaev, and their 3-year-old daughter.

Katherine comes from a very close family and has two younger sisters, Anna and Becca. Her father Warren is a doctor and her mother Judith is a nurse.

Until last year, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, his wife Katherine, and daughter lived three years on social assistance programs in the state of Massachusetts and the city of Cambridge. But the state benefits began much earlier.

When they were children, their parents also received social assistance, according to the report published by the newspaper Boston Herald.

After this information was made public, some are now suggesting that the U.S. government could have indirectly funded terrorist training of the two brothers that were responsible for the attack in the Boston Marathon that killed three and injured dozens more.

Baby sold on Facebook: Grand Father Selling Baby on Facebook

Baby sold on Facebook: in shocking case that brings together the twin evils of child trafficking and social media abuse, a newborn Indian baby was sold to a businessman for Rs 800,000 ($ 14,754)  via Facebook.

The child was born in a Ludhiana hospital, and early reports indicate that he was already sold twice before the final Facebook deal was struck. The first sale was by the infant's grandfather, who told his daughter the infant was stillborn, and sold the child to a nurse for Rs 45,000.

The nurse then sold the child to a hospital attendant for Rs 300,000; the latter in turn put the child up for sale on Facebook, which is where the Delhi-based businessman completed the third sale in the series.

A police raid on the businessman's home Tuesday resulted in the child's recover; police have since arrested five people involved in the deal, including the grandfather and one other unnamed individual accused of facilitating the sales.

Yahoo news also reported that Police say this case is the tip of a very big iceberg of child-trafficking; estimates indicate that tens of thousands of children are trafficked each year out of India alone.

This is, however, the first known instance of a social networking site being used to facilitate this deal.

It is not the first such instance in the world, though. In March this year, Misty Van Horn, mother of two in Oklahama, US, offered her ten month and two year old children for sale on Facebook, and ended up behind bars.

Police reports indicate the 10 month girl was offered for a mere $1000, with a package deal offering both children for $4000.

In an ironic twist, the woman was attempting to earn $1000 to get her boyfriend out on bail. (With agency inputs)

Baby sold on Facebook

Baby sold on Facebook, a businessman  in India was recently arrested by police officials as he attempted to buy a stolen baby on Facebook. The man paid 800,000 rupees, or approximately US$14,749, for the child. The kidnapped baby was being sold because of actions taken by the newborn’s grandfather.

According to local authorities, Feroz Khan kidnapped his grandson from the boy’s mom in Ludhiana, Punjab, India.

The grandfather told his daughter that her child was stillborn. The grandfather then sold the baby to a nurse who sold the child to a lab technician.

That lab technician, Gurpreet Singh, followed up the kidnapping by posting a picture of the 3-day-old boy on Facebook. Eventually, businessman Amit Kumar offered to purchase the newborn.

The baby’s mother became suspicious when her father gave her some of the cash from the sale.

Shortly after realizing what had happened, police tracked down and arrested Khan, his accomplice, and both of the hospital employees who initially purchased the newborn child.

Kumar is also facing charges for his part in the purchase of the kidnapped baby.

According to police, Khan sold the baby because he wanted to arrange a second marriage for his daughter. The girl’s dad believed she would not find a new husband if she was already raising a child. The child’s father abandoned his family before the birth.

Khan and the two hospital employees could face up to seven years in prison if found guilty.

Sadly, this is not the first time we have reported on a child being sold on Facebook. As previously stated, a mom in the United States tried to sell her two children for a measly $4,000.

Facebook actively monitors its network for illegal activities and routinely reports those activities to local police.

Are you surprised that a grandfather would kidnap his daughter’s baby and then try to sell the child on Facebook?

Wai Kru Mixed Martial Arts center owner John Allan said Tsarnaev and Mess used to work out at his gym together but Tsarnaev stopped coming after Mess was murdered.

The event clearly still haunted Tsarnaev as recently as last week when he suddenly returned to his old gym and started acting unusually.

The business owner who was traveling in Thailand at the time said he received an e-mail saying Tsarnaev had been in but acted rudely and disrespectfully to other gym-users.

'It was a clear indication that something was up,' Allan told the Boston Globe. 'He was becoming a complete [expletive].'

Family members reported that Tamerlan seemed to become more devout from 2009.

Aunt Maret Tsarnaeva said her nephew went from praying no more than once a day to praying five times a day.

A neighbor reported he started changing his dress while his uncle said he lectured him on religion in 2009.
'There certainly were mentors,’ Ruslan Tsarni said. 'I was shocked when I heard his words, his phrases, when every other word he starts sticking in words of God.

'I question what he’s doing for work, (and) he claimed he would just put everything in the will of God. It was a big concern to me. He called me 'confused' when I started explaining to him, make yourself useful to yourself and to your family and maybe you’ll have extra to share with everybody else.

'It wasn’t devotion, it was something, as it’s called, being radicalized. Not understanding what he is talking (about). He is just using words for the sake of the words and not understanding the meaning of it.’

It was in recent months however that he appeared to become radicalized, posting about terrorism online from around five months ago.

'I used to warn Dzhokhar that Tamerlan was up to no good,' Zaur Tsarnaev, 26, the suspects cousin from Makhachkala, Russia, said.

'[Tamerlan] was always getting in trouble. He was never happy, never cheering, never smiling. He used to strike his girlfriend. . . . He was not a nice man.'

'He could manipulate him,' an uncle told the New York Times.

They painted a picture of Dzhokhar as the weaker of the pair led astray by his older sibling.
Peter Tean, 21, a high school wrestling teammate, said that he thought Dzhokhar copied his brother's love of boxing by taking up the sport.

'He’s done these violent sports because his brother’s a boxer,' Mr. Tean told the Boston Globe. 'He really loves his brother, looks up to him.'

He was described as settled in America with a good network of friends.

The family appears to have been torn apart with Tsarnaev falling out with his uncle Alvi Tsarnaev two years ago.

He phoned him the night before he was killed asking for 'forgiveness'. The uncle from Montgomery Village, Maryland, didn't reveal what the disagreement was about.

'He said, 'I love you and forgive me,' he said

'We were not talking for a long time because there were some problems. We were not happy with each other.'

'I asked him what he was doing. He said, "I fix cars, I got married, got a baby,'

'Killing innocent people, I cannot forgive that,' he said. 'It's crazy. I don't believe it now even. How can I forgive this?'

Mosque won't bury suspect

Mosque won't bury suspect, A mosque won’t bury suspect number one in the Boston Marathon bombings, as it was revealed by the suspect’s own family member on Wednesday, April 24.

The aunt of suspect number one, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was killed last week by police after an ugly shootout began following a deadly incident at MIT.

Less than a week later, Tsarnaev’s own aunt Patimat Suleimanova revealed to the media that authorities presiding over the Boston Marathon bombings informed Tsarnaev’s family that they can have his body for burial purposes.

But when an uncle of the suspect approached a mosque to request a burial, they were refused, as they wanted no part of being affiliated with a main suspect of a terror attack on American soil.

Tsarnaev, of course, was killed on Friday after a shootout with Boston police. His younger brother was found badly injured but alive shortly thereafter, as he was discovered hiding in a boat in Watertown, Massachusetts.

The younger brother, Dzhokhar, was unable to speak to authorities after being arrested due to a gunshot wound in his throat.

Now, however, it’s been revealed that Dzhokhar is communicating with authorities by writing down answers on a piece of paper.

While at the hospital, Dzhokhar—also known as Supspect #2—was clinging to life, with authorities worried they’d never have the opportunity to question him about he and his brother’s motiviation for the bombing.

For more on the mosque won’t bury suspect number 1 story, return to the Crime Examiner column later today.

20,000 students sue

20,000 students sue, 20,000 students in California need a better understanding of the English language. Unfortunately, the students aren't getting the proper language education that they need and desire. This according to a lawsuit against the state and education workers filed Wednesday by the American Civil Liberties Union, the Denver Post reported on April 24.

Based on state and federal law, schools are required to teach non-English speakers the language. However, according to its own records, Calif. isn't offering available English instruction to almost 20,000 students. According to the lawsuit, the absence of instruction has resulted in some children failing. The low test scores are the direct result of a lack of knowledge of the English language.

Attorney Mark Rosenbaum stated in Wednesday's filing that despite school districts being giving federal funds designated for language education, students still aren't getting a strong enough grasp of the English language in order to pass proficiency tests.

"These kids are not getting the differentiated learning they're supposed to be getting," Rosenbaum said.

According to a statement given by Chief Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction Richard Zeiger, the state is determined to give English learners appropriate instruction.

"The Department will continue to work with local agencies to ensure compliance with districts' obligations to provide services to English learners," Zeiger said.

The lawsuit filed by the ACLU is seeking a court order that forces schools to provide courses to English learners who need them, along with the associated attorney fees for filing the suit.

3-year-old Tsarnaev daughter: Being Stalked By Media

3-year-old Tsarnaev daughter, Suspected Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev not only had a wife, Katherine Russell, but a daughter, 3-year-old Zahara. Zahara, who may be completely unaware what happened to her father, who was killed in a shootout with Boston police, is staying with her mother and grandparents in Rhode Island. By now, she may be wondering where daddy is, considering that she hasn't seen him since Friday night at the latest, and he was reportedly her main caretaker. The New York Daily News staked out the Russell home and snapped pics of the toddler with her grandmother, which is. So. Wrong.

Zahara has become news by way of her notorious father -- and she'll have to live with this forever. Her name will forever be associated with his. We have no idea how that might affect her in the future.

So even though the Daily News blotted out her face, it's still wrong to drag a toddler into this media mess. There's no reason for photographers to be stalking her from the bushes. If her face ever gets out there, it'll be on the Interwebs for all time.

Zahara didn't choose to be brought into this world. Unlike Katherine, who, although she may have been completely ignorant of her husband's plans, did choose to marry him, Zahara didn't pick him as her father.

She has nothing to do with anything. Yet whatever photos the press manages to get of her will follow her forever. Just like Time magazine choosing to put a terrified child on its cover, it's just wrong.

Zahara will have enough to deal with without her face everywhere -- she'll have her own emotional issues, she'll have a mother who is now a single mom, she might have bullying at school. Protecting this poor child is the best thing adults can do now -- not putting her on the covers of newspapers, speculating about whether her body language means she knows about her father's and uncle's fate or not.

If the news is the bombing, Zahara wasn't even there. And she certainly isn't remotely responsible for whatever her father and uncle may or may not have done. So how is she news? PLUS. She's 3 years old! Have some class. Have some heart.

Leave Zahara alone, media. Children should not have to carry the sins of their fathers.

Do you think the media should be taking pictures of Zahara?

'Human computer' dies

'Human computer' dies, Shakuntala Devi, an Indian mathematical wizard known as “the human computer” for her ability to make incredibly swift calculations, died on Sunday in Bangalore, India. She was 83.

The cause was respiratory and cardiac problems, said D. C. Shivadev, a trustee of the Shakuntala Devi Educational Foundation Public Trust.

Ms. Devi demonstrated her mathematical gifts around the world, at colleges, in theaters and on radio and television. In 1977, at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, she extracted the 23rd root of a 201-digit number in 50 seconds, beating a Univac computer, which took 62 seconds.

In 1980, she correctly multiplied two 13-digit numbers in only 28 seconds at the Imperial College in London. The feat, which earned her a place in the 1982 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records, was even more remarkable because it included the time to recite the 26-digit solution.

Problems solved by Ms. Devi during a demonstration in 1976, as they appeared in The New York Times.

(The numbers, selected at random by a computer, were 7,686,369,774,870 and 2,465,099,745,779. The answer was 18,947,668,177,995,426,462,773,730.)

Shakuntala Devi was born in Bangalore on Nov. 4, 1929. Her father was a trapeze artist and lion tamer in a circus. Survivors include a daughter and two grandchildren.

She was about 3 and playing cards with her father when he discovered that she was a mathematical prodigy with an uncanny ability to memorize numbers. By the time she was 5, she had become an expert at solving math problems.

Ms. Devi won fame demonstrating her math skills at the circus, and later in road shows arranged by her father.

“I had become the sole breadwinner of my family, and the responsibility was a huge one for a young child,” she once said. “At the age of 6, I gave my first major show at the University of Mysore, and this was the beginning of my marathon of public performances.”

She toured Europe in 1950. When she appeared on the BBC, her answer to a difficult calculation was different from the interviewer’s. It turned out that she was right. Similarly, at the University of Rome, one of her answers to a problem was found to be wrong, until the experts re-examined their own calculations.

When Ms. Devi performed in New York in 1976, an article in The New York Times marveled at her abilities: “She could give you the cube root of 188,132,517 — or almost any other number — in the time it took to ask the question. If you gave her any date in the last century, she would tell you what day of the week it fell on.”

In a 1990 journal article about Ms. Devi, Arthur R. Jensen, a researcher on human intelligence at the University of California, Berkeley, noted that unlike the Dustin Hoffman character in the movie “Rain Man,” an autistic savant who was also a mathematical prodigy, “Devi comes across as alert, extroverted, affable and articulate.”

He posited that for Ms. Devi, “the manipulation of numbers is apparently like a native language, whereas for most of us arithmetic calculation is at best like the foreign language we learned in school.” But he added that she built on her inherent skills through intense practice as a child.

Ms. Devi was also a successful astrologer, cookbook author and novelist.

Leave Zahara alone, media. Children should not have to carry the sins of their fathers.

Do you think the media should be taking pictures of Zahara?

Obama daughters tattoos: President plan to stop daughters getting tattoos

Obama daughters tattoos, getting a tattoo takes a lot of careful planning because so many things need to be decided. A person needs to come up with the right design, be prepared to deal with the pain, find a clean and well-respected shop, and prepare for any backlash from those opposing them getting a tattoo. Well, the Orlando Sentinel revealed on April 24, 2013, that President Obama has a plan to make sure his daughters don't get a tattoo.

As Sasha and Malia Obama get older, they are going to start making decisions of their own behalf, of course. They've still got to respect their parents decisions though, and knowing that your parents are the President and First Lady of the United States could makes things a little tougher.

President Obama appeared on Wednesday's edition of the "Today" show, and he let people know that his daughters have their own minds. But they'd better never think about getting a tattoo because he just doesn't approve of it.

The president is also prepared on how to deal with that situation if the girls ever want one.

“What we’ve said to the girls is, ‘If you guys ever decided you’re going to get a tattoo, then mommy and me will get the exact same tattoo in the same place. And we’ll go on YouTube and show it off as a family tattoo,” Obama said. “And our thinking is that might dissuade them from thinking that somehow that’s a good way to rebel.”

You've got to hand it to the leader of the nation as that is one incredible way to dissuade any child from getting a tattoo.

Obama daughters tattoos: Obama will get one too

Obama daughters tattoos, The president barack obama is showing his parenting chops.

Along with the First Lady, in an interview with NBC, he spoke about talking to his daughters about tattoos.

Now, few parents would ENCOURAGE their kids to get a tattoo, but telling your kids they aren't cool and expecting them to listen? You're dreaming.

Instead, the president said he told the girls that if they DO get a tattoo, he and Michelle will get one too.

The very same one.

That's funny. Maybe tongue-in-cheek, but a great way to tell your kids something without truly having to lay down the law.

We got lucky in our house. We had a babysitter when our daughter was a pre-teenager. She had a tattoo on her shoulder. She was also a very tall, very beautiful, very cool girl that our daughter looked up to.

When she was planning her wedding, she went through a very obvious, painful and expensive removal process, because she didn't want her tattoo to show above her wedding dress. She talked a lot about how awful it was. My daughter watched it and I didn't have to say a thing.

Mission accomplished.

Obama: If daughters get tattoos, we will too

Obama daughters tattoos, On the “Today” show Wednesday morning, President Obama explained how he and first lady Michelle Obama plan to keep their daughters from getting tattoos.

Obama also discussed a recent interview in which his wife accidentally described herself as a single mom.

“You know, as somebody who has stumbled over my lines many times, I tend to cut my wife or anybody some slack when it comes to just a slip to the tongue,” the president said. “But there’s no doubt that there’ve been times where Michelle probably felt like a single mom.”

If you have any ideas for an Obama family tattoo — maybe one of these? — you can leave it in the comments.

Obama daughters tattoos: Whole Family tattoo could get inked

Obama daughters tattoos: Whole Family tattoo could get inked. Obama warned his daughters about tattoos, telling them that he and their mom, Michelle, would get matching tattoos in the same locations and display them online as a "family tattoo." On April 24, The Inquisitr reported that Barack Obama is trying to deter his girls from inking their bodies -- at least in the coming years while they are just teenagers.

"What we’ve said to the girls is, 'If you guys ever decided you’re going to get a tattoo, then mommy and me will get the exact same tattoo in the same place. And we’ll go on YouTube and show it off as a family tattoo' … And our thinking is that might dissuade them from thinking that somehow that’s a good way to rebel," said Obama.

Obama's daughters might want tattoos -- a lot of people do. However, Mr. President has come up with a pretty interesting idea to try and make his girls think twice about getting inked. Naturally the girls will make their own decisions some day, but if Obama can prolong them, he might be doing a good thing.

Of course this was a great idea and maybe while the girls are young it will keep them from doing anything that they might regret later in life. It is, however, kind of funny to imagine all the possibilities. Obama sure seems to have a good sense of humor. Do you think Sasha and Malia took him seriously?

The Obama daughters getting tattoos could be a long way off and maybe they won't ever want to get inked. Who knows?

Obama daughters tattoos: Obama May get tattoos

Obama daughters tattoos, If they were thinking about getting tattoos, the Obama daughters may want to reconsider.

Speaking on NBC's "Today" show in a segment originally filmed before the Boston Marathon bombings, President Barack Obama revealed the strategy he and First Lady Michelle Obama have been using to keep their daughters away from tattoos.

"What we've said to the girls is, 'If you guys ever decide you're going to get a tattoo, then mommy and me will get the exact same tattoo, in the same place, and we'll go on YouTube and show it off as a family tattoo,'" Obama said.

"Our thinking is that might dissuade them from thinking that somehow that's a good way to rebel."

During the segment, the president also said he understood his wife's "slip of the tongue" when she called herself a "single mother" in early April, noting that they were often apart for a week at a time when he was campaigning for the Senate and presidency.

"I tend to cut my wife or anybody some slack when it comes to just slips of the tongue," he said.

"But there's no doubt that there have been times where Michelle probably felt like a single mom ... She definitely, I think, understands the burdens that women in particular tend to feel if they're both responsible for child rearing and they're responsible for working at the same time," he added.

Obama daughters tattoos

Obama daughters tattoos, President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are counting on reverse psychology to prevent Malia ( and Sasha from getting inked.

President Obama and the First Lady have come up with a crafty strategy to prevent their daughters from getting tattoos — and it banks on the girls thinking their parents are deeply uncool.

“What we’ve said to the girls is, ‘If you guys ever decide you're going to get a tattoo, then mommy and me will get the exact same tattoo. In the same place,’” Obama said with a smile. “And we'll go on YouTube and show it off as a family tattoo.”

“And our thinking is that might dissuade them from thinking that somehow that's a good way to rebel,” he added.

Obama was joined by his young family as he entered the U.S. Senate in 2004, before tattoos were a concern.

During the interview that aired Wednesday on NBC’s “Today,” Obama also laughed off a recent gaffe made by his wife — calling herself a “single mother” in an interview.

“As somebody who has stumbled over my lines many times – I tend to cut my wife or anybody some slack when it comes to just slips of the tongue,” Obama said.

But he acknowledged that “there’s no doubt that there have been times where Michelle probably felt like a single mom.”

“When I was running for the U.S. Senate, when I was running for President, there were times where I wouldn’t see her for a week and she was still working and had to look after the girls,” he said. “So she definitely, I think, understands the burdens that women in particular tend to feel if they’re both responsible for child rearing and they’re responsible for working at the same time.”

4 children killed mobile home

4 children killed mobile home,  Four children have died in a fire that swept through a mobile home Wednesday near the South Carolina city of Hartsville, their bodies discovered by firefighters shortly after they put out the flames, an official said.

Russell Cox, a spokesman for the city of Hartsville, said firefighters took about 10 minutes to extinguish the fire and then found the victims in the charred interior of the home. The ages and identities of the victims were not immediately released by a local coroner, Cox added.

"There is a whole lot of crying here. It's an emotional scene," Cox told The Associated Press without elaborating.

A photograph tweeted by the Darlington County sheriff's office showed the charred interior of the mobile home while the outside appeared to be relatively undamaged.

A tricycle and another children's toy could be seen in the yard. Smoke could be seen still wafting from an open front door where fire hoses snaked through the opening.

The fire broke out on a street lined with mobile homes near Hartsville, a city of about 8,000 people about 60 miles east of the state capital of Columbia.

Steve Martin baby Named: Conquistador

Steve Martin baby, Named as " Conquistador". "It's a statement" name, he says.

Steve Martin, who has been totally tight-lipped about his new baby girl, opened up a little —- with jokes — about being a new dad on Tuesday's Late Show with David Letterman.

The comedian, 67, said everything is "going great" with the baby that he and wife Anne Stringfield welcomed two months ago. Martin then pulled out a baby monitor and placed it on the Dave's desk.

"The baby's back at the hotel," he explained, proudly adding, "and I'm a responsible dad."

After various noises were heard coming from the monitor, including a dog barking, coughing and a siren, Martin cracked, "I think I left the window open!"

Dave asked about the baby's name, and Steve replied, "We've thought about the name quite a bit," he said.

"Conquistador," he said, pronouncing it "con-queest-a dor." "What do you think? I didn't want to go with one of those Hollywood weird names. Conquistador says... It's a statement."

As Wetpaint.com points out, maybe he'll call her Connie.

Illinois shooting 5 dead

Illinois shooting 5 dead, A grandmother, a young couple and their two small children, 1 and 5, were found slain in a home in the small town of Manchester, about 50 miles southwest of Springfield, according to police and relatives.

The suspected gunman died after he exchanged gunfire with police during a chase, officials said. Police did not name him, but relatives and neighbors identified him as Rick Smith, 43, who lived in Roodhouse about five miles from Manchester.

The slain family members were identified by relatives as: Joanne Sinclair, 65, her granddaughter Brittany Luark, 22, her boyfriend Roy Ralston, Nolan Ralston, 5, and Brantley Ralston, 1.

Another child, Cassidy Ralston, 6, was in serious condition, according to Brad Teeter, Sinclair's son-in-law.

"The guy broke into the house," Teeter said. "I couldn't tell you about the guy, never met him, never seen him, never talked to him. He apparently broke into the home of my wife's mother and shot everybody inside."

"I'm at a loss right now," said Teeter.

State police would not comment on a possible motive. But a neighbor said Smith had been going through a custody battle with the mother of their 4-year-old daughter. The woman is Sinclair's daughter.

"He was under a lot of stress. . .There was a lot of problems with custody with the daughter," the neighbor said.

The neighbor said Smith had lived with the woman at his home until recently. The neighbor said the two had been together for about five years.

The neighbor said Smith worked as a jack of all trades. "He did odd jobs for people, he could fix anything. He was a really hard worker," the neighbor said.

The neighbor said Smith had custody of their daughter fairly often but "I know there was a lot of friction with (her) family."

Manchester Mayor Ron Drake, 66, said he was alerted around 4:45 a.m. by a page asking Scott County officials to respond to a multiple shooting.

An all points bulletin was issued for the suspect and he was arrested around 7:30 a.m. after a brief chase. "From the time they spotted him to the time they stopped was probably 10 minutes on the chase," Drake said.

He exchanged shots with police after his white Chevy Lumina was pulled over, according to the state police. He was wounded and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

State police said they recovered several weapons.

A Winchester woman said she turned on the police scanner at her home around 7 a.m. after learning her children's school was closed because of an emergency. She heard a police chase on the scanner and realized the shooting suspect was approaching her home.

She went outside and saw a white car cruise by, chased by about three or four police cars. After the car went by, it spun out and crashed about a half-mile away. Then she heard a volley of gunshots.

"It's a tragic thing, you don't ever think it will happen close to home," the woman said.

Drake said he learned later that the suspect was a relative, but he would not comment further.

These are the first murders in the town in the 43 years he has lived there. He said 300 people live in the town.

"It's a tragedy," he said. "I've lived here for 43 years and my wife's lived her for all of her life and there's never been a homicide."

Illinois State Police responded with local police and SWAT teams overnight, she said. Schools in the area were closed as a precaution.

Obama's tattoo plan: Revealed

Obama's tattoo plan, during a wide-ranging interview, conducted hours before the Boston Marathon bombings, President Barack Obama answered questions about gun control, North Korea, immigration reform, abortion and various other topics. At the end of the discussion, Obama also spoke about life in the White House as a husband and father to Malia, 14, and Sasha, 11.

The president gave his wife tremendous credit for her role as a working parent, particularly during his campaigns. He laughed off a question about the first lady’s recent gaffe when she accidentally called herself a “busy single mother” before quickly correcting herself and laughing off the mistake.

“You know, as somebody who has stumbled over my lines many times, I tend to cut my wife or anybody some slack when it comes to just a slip to the tongue,” Obama told TODAY’s Savannah Guthrie in an exclusive interview. “But there's no doubt that there've been times where Michelle probably felt like a single mom.”

The president said there were times he didn’t see his wife for a week while he was campaigning.

“And she was still working and having to look after the girls. And she definitely, I think, understands the burdens that women in particular tend to feel if they're both responsible for child rearing and they're responsible for working at the same time,” he said. “And that's kept a lot of women not only single, but also married around the country.”

President Obama and the first lady have a failsafe plan for discouraging their daughters from getting tattoos or engaging in other rebellious acts: If you can’t beat them, join them – and then show the entire world.

“What we’ve said to the girls is, ‘If you guys ever decided you're going to get a tattoo, then mommy and me will get the exact same tattoo in the same place. And we'll go on YouTube and show it off as a family tattoo,’” Obama said. “And our thinking is that might dissuade them from thinking that somehow that's a good way to rebel.”

Obama has already proved to his daughters, not to mention the rest of the world, that he’s not afraid to risk public embarrassment. Last year, he belted out Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” while at a fundraiser at the Apollo Theater of Harlem.

Michelle Obama also proved she’s game for laughs when she famously showed off her “mom dance” moves with Jimmy Fallon during a February appearance on his show.

The president said his wife has always insisted she’s the better dancer of the two.

“In private, you know, I can bust a move and I think I'm pretty good,” he told Guthrie. “But she tends to hold out when it comes to praise of my dancing.”

Obama also confirmed rumors of going Gangnam Style during his second inauguration.

“Fortunately, we destroyed all the tapes,” he said.

Missing student body: Found at Providence River

Missing student body: Found at Providence River.  The body of a young man that was pulled out of Providence River in Rhode Island on Tuesday could be that of missing Brown student Sunil Tripathi, who went missing on March 16th.

Tripathi’s family says he was acting normally during the days leading up to his disappearance, but hinted that he was going through a tough time, although just what that is hasn’t been reported. The 22-year old was falsely accused of being a suspect in the Boston bombings last week, shocking and enraging those who knew him.

“Someone will tweet, then retweet, and completely unsubstantiated things can proliferate so rapidly and destructively,” his sister, Sangeeta Tripathi, said. “Those night hours were horrible.”

The mystery of what happened to Tripathi will likely haunt his family if the body does indeed turn out to be his. They say he left his wallet and phone at his apartment, taking with him only a key and his glasses. After several text conversations with family members on a Friday night–in which he seemed normal–he didn’t respond to messages the next morning. What happened in the intervening hours is crucial, but if the body in the river turns out to be his, it’s likely it will not yield any answers. Officials say it appears to have been in the water for several days, if not weeks. An autopsy has yet to definitively reveal an identity.

Mexican cartel queen: Pleaded guilty in US case

Mexican cartel queen: Pleaded guilty in US case. Getting named a czar in the drug cartel game can be considered a huge deal to some people around the world. Well, Sandra Avila Beltran was known as the Mexican cartel queen and an Associated Press report on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, states that she has pleaded guilty to charges in a US case.

The Mexican cartel queen was in Miami when she pleaded guilty to charges from a huge cocaine trafficking case. Beltran has been given the titled as "Queen of the Pacific."

She currently faces a maximum of 15 years in prison for the drug trafficking case, and is scheduled to to be sentenced at a hearing on July 25, 2013.

The court records show that she pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact in an organization of huge drug traffickers. That group included her former boyfriend, Juan Diego Espinosa Ramirez.

A statement was signed by Avila that says she provided money to Espinosa for his travel and lodging expenses between 2002 and 2004. That money was needed so that he could avoid the authorities and not get arrested.

Espinosa pleaded guilty in 2009 to cocaine trafficking charges after being captured. He was a former liaison between Colombia's Norte Valle cartel and Mexico's Sinaloa cartel.

Why do I strip? Dancer posts pic of the cash she makes in just ONE shift

A stripper has published a photo of the money she makes in a single night as a response to the people who ask her why she does what she does for a living.

The image shows approximately $3,345 in mixed bills, as calculated by commenters, meaning that just three shifts a month would see her earn $120,000 a year in tips alone.

The thread on Reddit was captioned: 'From now on when people ask me why I’m a stripper, I’m just going to show them this picture (one day of work).'

Financial statement: A stripper has published a photo of the money she makes in a single shift as a response to the people who ask her why she does what she does for a living

The user, Menagerii, who says stripping is paying her way through an engineering degree at 'one of the most prestigious public tech schools in the U.S.', admits that this particular shift was a double, lasting from 11.30am until 3.30am, and that it is 'way more' than she usually makes.

'I typically make between $500 and $1,500 a night,' she says. 'Luckily that day I didn't have to dance much. I probably only did about 30 or so table dances and five stage sets.'

'I can skip out for three or four months straight and come back no questions asked . . . As long as I didn't gain weight'

She says that another perk of the job is that it allows her plenty of free time as she can work as often or as little as she likes.

'I can skip out for three or four months straight and come back no questions asked . . . As long as I didn't gain weight,' she adds.

Several commenters expressed curiosity about the kind of cut the strip club takes and whether Menagerii pays taxes.

'I claim all! . . . Most! . . . Some . . . A little bit . . . Dammit, I pay taxes! [sic]' she wrote in response to the latter.

Not just a pretty face: Menagerii, says stripping is paying her way through an engineering degree

She explained that the strippers pay the club to work there, and a house fee is typically $45 plus 10per cent of tips.

'I worked two shifts that day so I paid $90 plus 10per cent,' she said, adding that she puts 90per cent of what she makes into a savings account.

She did have to field several critics though, who were vocal in their opinions about her choice of work and what her family might make of it.

But it seems there is no drama there. 'When I told my dad, he said he was fine with it as long as I didn't ask him for money, start doing drugs, or start hooking,' Menagerii said.

And to the user who called her a f***ing idiot because 'most eligible guys arne't [sic] gonna be interested in a used up stripper when they can find an equally (or more) attractive non-stripper,' she said that she has no shortage of eligible male attention.

'Since I've been working I've been proposed to twice, both by men that make over 6 figures a year,' Menagerii revealed. 'I'm actually currently dating a director for a very popular TV series . . . So I'm not sure where you got your information?'

A number of commenters admitted that they were jealous, with one even questioning how they might get into stripping too.

Menagerii replied that the commenter's stage fright and lack of skill would not be an issue, but 'you have to be in good shape, quick witted, confident, and have a pretty face. Everything else follows.'

Another user made their envy clear in a play on the MasterCard catchphrase, writing: 'Law textbooks: $400 a semester. Tuition: $40,000. Learning that at the top of my field, I can only barely make more per hour than a stripper: Priceless.'

'Without them, you’d be in trouble,' he said. 'Without them in the right amounts, you’ll stay fat, and you’ll never get into that dress, tux, Speedo, or bikini.'

WHAT IS IN 800 CALORIES A DAY?

Breakfast:

One small banana: 60 calories

One serving of low-fat yogurt: 120 calories

One coffee, black: 5 calories

Snack:

Two slices of wheat bread: 160 calories

One teaspoon of butter: 45 calories

One small apple: 60 calories

Lunch:

One green salad: 25 calories

One can of Tuna: 35 calories

One teaspoon of Olive Oil: 25 calories

Dinner:

One serving of couscous: 80 calories

One serving of spinach: 25 calories

One serving of avocado: 45 calories

One chicken breast: 35 calories

One glass of red wine: 74 calories

Total: 794 calories

During the Jumpstart to Skinny program, 40per cent of calories come from protein, and 40per cent from carbohydrates ('nature’s sugars are the body’s fuel,' he explains).

Mr Harper counts carbohydrates through a 'net carbs' system, which refers to the way in which fibers in food offset the carbohydrate number.

'A food like, say, blueberries, has 21 grams of carbs per cup, but 4 grams of fiber,' he said. 'So, to calculate the net carbs for a cup of blueberries, you subtract the grams of fiber from the carbs: that’s 17 net carbs!'

Fats, whether in the form of oils or solids, help maintain the essential barriers around our cells, and provide a dense source of fuel - 120 calories for every tablespoon. The Jumpstart diet allow 20per cent fats.

'It’s not just calories in, calories out that makes for weight loss. It’s also what’s in those calories that counts,' said Mr Harper.

'That’s why—as you’ll see—I’m so specific about what you should eat and when you should eat it. The 800 model works.'

Mr Harper refers to an ongoing European study that connects the dots between losing weight and maintaining that loss.

One of its recent findings concluded: 'Low calorie diet-induced changes in BMI [and] fasting insulin... are inversely associated with weight regain in the 6-month period following weight loss,' according to Mr Harper.
While the trial is not over, Mr Harper explained that the more he observes and studies his own clients, the more convinced he becomes that a low-calorie diet induces positive metabolic changes - making weight regain much less likely.

She's got it in writing! Estate agent proposes to girlfriend

From getting down on one knee on the middle of Sydney Harbour Bridge to shimmying to the top of the Eiffel Tower, proposing is becoming an increasingly creative business.

But one romantic chap took it one step further by taking out a full page advertisement in his local paper to pop the question - despite the risk of a very public knock back.

Luckily for Steve English, his gamble paid off, with his new fiancee, Hayley Groves, 27, saying yes straight away.

Words: Steve and new fiancee Hayley pose with his full page proposal in the Eastern Daily Press

Steve, 34, of Wickford, Essex, made his public bid for marriage during a mini-break with then- girlfriend Hayley at Heacham Manor Hotel at Heacham, near Hunstanton, Norfolk.

As the couple set out for Holkham for a picnic, the romantic estate agent made sure he picked up a copy of the Eastern Daily Press.

Once they had reached the beach, Steve suggested that Hayley flicked through the paper as he got down on bended knee.

'She said yes, [but] she was just shocked,' revealed English, who proclaimed his love for Miss Groves across the whole of page 18 in the Eastern Daily Press' West and Fens edition.

'thought she might miss it if it was something smaller. I wanted to do something public but I didn't want to embarrass her.'

Getting down on his knees on Holkham's golden sand, Steve asked: 'Hayley Groves will you marry me? I love you with all my heart. We've been with each other for years and my love for you grows more each year.

'You are a beautiful and caring person and have always been there for me 100pc through the bad times.

'My family adores you and I cannot imagine my life without you in it.Now we are expecting our first child I hope you will say yes and make me the happiest man alive.

Luckily for Steve, thrilled Hayley agreed there and then on Holkham Beach. 'It was a shock more than anything,' she said.'I wasn't expecting it at all.The couple, who are expecting their first baby later this year, are now planning their big day.

Heartbroken bride-to-be prepares for the funeral of her fiance

At this moment, young bride Sarah Maccullum should be on her honeymoon enjoying the life of a newlywed with the man of her dreams.

Instead the 21-year-old is preparing for fiance Nick Czerwinski's funeral after he died from a heart condition just three days before their big day.

Although the pair were due to wed in hospital, Sarah says that Nick's death has come as a real shock.

Sarah, who lived with Nick in Plymouth, Devon, said: 'He was so laid back, you never knew there was anything wrong with him.

Tragic: Nick (left) died of cardiomyopathy just three days before he was due to marry fiancee Sarah

'He never complained. We did not realise how many friends he had until he passed away. We wanted to get married so I would have his last name, the same surname as our daughter.'

Sarah's sister Becky, 18, added: 'He was always cheering everyone else up, when we should have been cheering him up.'

Nick, 22, who had a lifelong heart problem died suddenly only three days before the ceremony planned at Harefield Hospital near London.

Now Sarah faces the difficulty of paying for his burial only seven months after the birth of their daughter Leila.

His family say they cannot afford to pay £4,000 for the funeral they say he deserves and have appealed for help.

They are also struggling to meet the £400 cost incurred in bringing Nick back from a hospital near London.

Heartbroken: Sarah has been left to bring up daughter Leila alone and is struggling to pay for Nick's funeral

Nick was born with cardiomyopathy, a heart disease which led to an irregular heartbeat. He attended Estover Community College and City College Plymouth, where he studied catering and was also where he met Sarah.

She said: 'He loved his food, he used to plan his day around his meals. They were one of the few things he could enjoy in the end.'

Nick was also a keen Plymouth Argyle fan and used to have a season ticket at Home Park.

Nick spent several months last year at Harefield Hospital in Middlesex, but when the couple planned to marry on April 12 they were looking forward to a future together.

Nick died from bleeding on the brain as a side-effect of his heart problems on April 9, just weeks after going on the transplant list for a new heart.
She added: 'Myself and all my family have now gone on the register for organ donations. You never think anyone you know will need a donation, but it could happen to anyone.'

hameless' school that beat the arsonists: Blooming Duchess Kate plants tree

The Duchess of Cambridge yesterday visited an inspirational sink-estate school which suffered devastation after it was attacked by arsonists just hours after news of her trip was announced.

The Willows Primary School on Manchester’s deprived Wythenshawe estate - which is used as a backdrop for the Channel 4 comedy drama Shameless – has been held up as a beacon of hope and is now rated by Ofsted as Outstanding.

But on April 11 the school’s new £40,000 playground was torched by vandals, razing an enormous climbing frame known as ‘The Fort’ to the ground.

The crime was a huge blow to teachers, parents and children who had just found out that they would be receiving an official visit by the 31-year-old royal.

Fortunately, however, the community has rallied round in a remarkable way, working round the clock to rebuild the playground in time for the royal visit.

The Duchess, who is more than six months pregnant, was wearing a floral Erdem dress and blue suede heels, as she was greeted by hundreds of excited young children cheering and waving the national flag of England in honour of St George's Day.

Kate immediately went into a 40 minute private briefing with some of the children who have sought help and their counsellors.

Among those greeting her were star pupil Chloe Pomfret, ten, who presented a posy of roses and school 'executive dog' King Charles Cavalier Henry who was wearing a glittering union flag bow and presented a gorgeous gift hamper for William and Kate's dog, Lupo.

The Duchess appeared particularly delighted with Lupo's hamper and asked what was in it. 'Henry , you have gone to so much trouble,' she laughed.

Her blossoming bump was still small but much more visible in the £1.065 Sophia Visconti-bloom silk dress by Canadian designer Erdem.

Stylish Kate teamed the dress with navy suede heels and a boxy clutch bag.

Kate’s visit yesterday was designed to highlight a new school counselling programme called M-PACT, which is a partnership between the Duchess’ own Royal Foundation (which she co-chairs with Prince William and Prince Harry), Comic Relief, Place2Be and Action on Addiction. Kate recently agreed to become patron of the latter two organisations.

M-PACT (Moving Parents And Children Together) is designed to provide support for children affected by parental drugs or alcohol abuse.

Research suggests that more than a million youngsters nationwide are living in homes where their parents’ addictions have had a hugely detrimental impact on their lives and education.

For many children school can actually offer a positive, consistent environment, which can play a vital role in helping to overcome their difficulties at home.

After her private meetings, the Duchess gave a short speech in which she spoke passionately about the issue of addiction.

She said: 'Addiction is a hugely complex and destructive disease and its impact can be simply devastating. All too often, lives and families can be shattered by it. Through my Patronage of Action on Addiction, I feel fortunate to have met a wide range of inspirational people who have overcome addiction. It is so encouraging to see that with the right help - like that of Action on Addiction - it can be conquered.'

She continued: 'But those who are addicted are not the only victims. I have been struck by the profound and deeply damaging impact it has on the children of affected parents. ‬‪Research has shown that children of those who are addicted are seven times more likely to have addiction problems themselves. They are also brought up surrounded by fear, instability and chaos.‬‪

Afterwards comedian and Comic Relief ambassador John Bishop gave a moving speech about the affect of addiction on young children but couldn't resist opening with a wise crack about being a Liverpudlian being brought to Manchester after their home team had won the Premier League for the 20th time with, he joked, 'the Duchess as a warm up act'.

The Willows, which has been open since 1999, has around 430 pupils and has been labelled outstanding by Ofsted for the last seven years.

Head teacher Anne Whitehead said of the vandal attack: 'It was such a shame as the school has been so inspirational that there hasn't been any trouble for many, many years.

'But the way the community has rallied round has been remarkable and so heartening. We have received so much in the way of donations that we are going to be able to build an extension to the playground which is marvellous.'

Before she left the Duchess went to the nursery class where she was presented with a willow tree for her garden at Kensington Palace and planted an identical one for the children.

Pinned to the wall were several sweet drawings of Kate and her husband created with crayons by the children. Some had also written a few words about the Duchess to describe her saying: 'Her hair is brawn (sic), she works in a charity headquarters, she has lovely shoes, she plays hockey.'

Afterwards Mr Bishop said: 'I think it is great that the royals are tackling raw, ugly, dirty and difficult issues such as addiction. They could spend their time and money on the National Theatre and no-one would think anything wrong with it. But this is about people shooting up in toilets. It goes against type and it is fantastic. While it had not been possible to rebuild the climbing frame in time for Kate's visit since the arson attack, an army of volunteers wielding buckets and brooms had helped to clear up the area for yesterday’s engagement while a local business, Creative Play, re-laid a new surface so there was no sign of the fire that wreaked such devastation.

‘We're determined to rebuild the fort with the help of the local community and others and have had offers already from companies wanting to help us with this,’ said head teacher Ann Whitehead.

‘We were all devastated when we heard about the fire. But we're not going to let them beat us.

‘The response has been so overwhelming and restored my faith. People just turned up out of nowhere to help clear the place up.’

Greater Manchester Police Inspector Caroline Hemmingway added: ’These arson attacks caused significant damage but could easily have resulted in far more serious consequences if the fire had spread to the school.

‘There has been an overwhelming response from the community, local residents, students, councillors, community wardens, police officers and staff have been out in force and have between them pledged to rebuild the playground.’

Housing almost 70,000 people, the notorious, sprawling Wythenshawe estate – sandwiched to the south of Manchester between the M56 and the city’s airport - is the second biggest of its kind in Europe and has been plagued by unemployment, crime and social disorder.

When David Cameron visited the estate in 2007 as part of his much-maligned ‘hug a hoodie’ campaign, a young local was pictured behind him pretending to cock a gun against his head.

Then in 2009 another royal Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, famously tried to help locals as part of a ridiculed ITV documentary dubbed The Duchess and The Estate in which she spent 10 days living and working there.

In recent years, however, new funds have been ploughed into Wythenshawe as part of a major programme of re-development. The area’s schools, particularly its primary schools, are a particular success story.

MEANWHILE THE DUCHESS OF CORNWALL HAS 'BIG LUNCH' DATE IN LONDON

A potential future Queen met a soap Queen yesterday when the Duchess of Cornwall and Barbara Windsor joined forces to honour community champions.

Camilla presented awards to local leaders who have helped improve their neighbourhoods after taking part in the annual Big Lunch initiative.

Windsor, 75, a former EastEnders actress, is London Mayor Boris Johnson's street party ambassador and helped judge the Big Lunch Community Awards.

The Big Lunch Community Awards were launched to celebrate the impact that has been made to communities during the first five years of the Big Lunch, an annual get-together for neighbours

The scheme celebrates the annual get together started by the Eden Project in 2009 which challenges people to sit down to lunch with their neighbours in a bid to foster friendship.

Big Luncher Jess Phillips, 31, accepted the award on behalf of the residents of Westfield Road in Birmingham, which began holding communal lunches after a series of arson attacks left people insecure with some wanting to sell their homes and move out of the area.

Ms Phillips, who was joined at Clarence House by her seven-year-old son Harry, has been organising the event in her street since 2010 and said the initiative has led to other community activities like a 'clean up day'.

She added: 'I think there's somebody like me in every street in the country and it's just a case of finding them.

'Nobody's stopped me doing these nice things for our street, if people decide to take the first step and knock on their neighbour's door that's all they have to do.'

The Duchess of Cornwall hosted the Big Lunch Community Awards in the garden room at Clarence House, actress Barbara Windsor was amongst the guests

Windsor joked that when she grew up in Bethnal Green in London's East End there were street parties all time.

She said: 'It's been a pleasure to be part of the Big Lunch Community Awards and it's a great honour to be invited to Clarence House to meet these five, incredibly deserving, communities.'

The five finalists, two from England and one from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, were selected out of 35 shortlisted communities from hundreds of applicants from across the UK.

They will each receive a garden bench for their communities and the Duchess and the actress posed for a picture on one of the seats with the winners.

Camilla is the patron of the Big Lunch and will attend an event when this year's get together is held on June 2.

The winners included Ethel Street in Neath, South Wales, which has taken part in the Big Lunch since 2009, and organisers Emma Knight and 17-year old Joel Al-Hattab, accepted the award.

Rutherglen in South Lanarkshire was another winner and its nominee Dr Srihari Vallabhajousula collected the trophy for the positive effect the lunches, held at the South Indian Cultural Centre, have had.

Martin Sawers and Silvio Solorzano held a Big Lunch in Attley Court in Northamptonshire last year and were honoured for using the event to build links within their community.

Paul Kerrigan and Conor McCarry, from Ballycastle, Northern Ireland, were presented with the final award, in recognition of their lunch which played an important part in strengthening community relations between the residents of Ballycastle and neighbouring Rathlin Island.Sir Tim Smit, co-founder of the Big Lunch and Cornwall's Eden Project, said: 'It just shows that a simple knock on a neighbour's door can lead to much, much more - not only a day of food and fun but lasting friendships, stronger, more sustainable communities and, for many, an irreplaceable sense of security.'
