Soap actor rape charge with two counts of rape involving a 15-year-old girl. William Roache has been on the British soap opera known as "Coronation Street" since its first episode aired back in 1960. Many call him the longest-serving soap star in the entire world, but now there is a problem. The Associated Press reported on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, that the soap actor has been given a rape charge.
The 81-year-old actor has been charged with two counts of rape involving a 15-year-old girl that happened around three decades ago. The rape charges were said to have taken place between April and July of 1967. Examiner reports
Police went and arrested Roache at his home on Wednesday. He is set to appear in court on May 14, 2013. Back in March, Roache had suggested in an interview that victims of child sex crimes had behaved badly in previous lives. He went on to say that the public school system should not be judgmental of those that are accused of child sex offenses.
Roache later apologized. The soap actor with the rape charge did not mean to imply that sex abuse victims are responsible for what happens to them.
