President Obama will travel to Austin next Thursday to deliver a speech FOX 7 has confirmed.
According to officials at the Austin Chamber of Commerce, Obama's speech will be about the economy.
The last time Air Force One landed in Austin was in July of 2012. President Obama held two campaign fundraisers.
Next Thursday, he will return, this time for an official visit to talk about the economy. Drew Scheberle with the Chamber of Commerce explains why the city is an appealing stage.
"The President has been focused since the beginning of his term on an innovation-based economy driven by education, better training better workforce. Austin is emblematic of many of those things," Scheberle said.
Scheberle says Austin also has a 5.3 percent unemployment rate, one of the lowest in the country as well as the best job growth in the country out of the 50 largest metropolitan areas.
"There's obviously people who will agree and disagree with him on things, but we'll always be happy to have him in Austin," Scheberle said.
Another person who is happy about the trip is Travis County Democratic Party Chair Andy Brown.
"I think his visits to Austin help raise our profile, help the chances that we're going to turn Texas blue and help the economy," Brown said.
A possible mention may be Governor Rick Perry's efforts to convince out-of-state businesses to come here. On Wednesday he held an event in shiner to announce the newest company to re-locate--Shield Tactical.
"We've added a half a million private sector jobs over the last two years alone, that's a total of nearly 1.4 million jobs created in the private sector over the last ten years in this state," Perry said.
Brown feels Obama will dispute that.
"Rick Perry may try and take credit for our improving economy here in Austin. I think it's improving despite of Rick Perry not because of him," Brown said.
Austin police are currently making security plans.
