Two family dogs are in critical
condition after a swarm of 50,000 bees attacked the animals, several
first responders and neighbors in an Arizona town Thursday.
The Rural/Metro Police Department responded to a home in Rancho Sahuarita - a town of 25,000 in Pima County - at around 5pm after receiving a report about bees swarming the residence in the 400 block of West Camino Tunera.
The insects stung the homeowner’s two pet dogs, leaving them fighting for survival.
No
people were seriously injured, but a Sahuarita police officer was
stung, according to officials. The residents were not home ay the time
of the incident.
Officials say the owner of the bee-infested two-story property left to get veterinary care for the dogs that had been stung, according to the station Tucson News Now.
Fire Crews were force had to spray the angry insects with foam because they started to get aggressive and swarm firelighters and neighbors.
Pat McCraken, a beekeeper with the company with HTS Bess, says that the bee colony has been growing for at least two years inside the house. He says that this is the biggest attic hive he has seen in 25 years on the job.
Tom Buck, who commented on the story reported by the station KVOA, said that he worked in pest control in the area and is familiar with the house in question.
According to Buck, the dwelling on West Camino Tunera had three nests in the eves.
'I told them almost a year ago they needed to be removed but they did not care to get it done,' the former exterminator wrote.
Another commenter from the neighborhood, Robin carol Kahler, said she noticed that the bees have been aggressive this year.
In a similar case that happened late last month in Mesa, Arizona, about 140 miles north of Rancho Sahuartia, a swarm of bees attacked four dogs in their home, killing one of them.
The three other pups were stung hundreds of times in the March 21 incident, leaving them in critical condition.
