Ernesto Mauri, the CEO of Mondadori Group which publishes Closer Magazine, and an unnamed photographer from the regional daily La Provence are facing criminal charges in connection with the September 2012 royal scandal. Both are reportedly accused of "invasion of privacy."
The topless photos of the Duchess of Cambridge were first published in France's Closer magazine before being picked up by several other European tabloids. The photos of Kate Middleton without her bikini top on were taken while the royal couple was enjoying a private vacation at a private chateau in southern France.

The photos were published while the couple was on their Far East Diamond Jubilee tour later that month. The release of the pictures is said to have deeply embarrassed the Duchess of Cambridge and infuriated Prince William who is fiercely protective of the couple's privacy.
Almost immediately after the photos were released Prince William vowed to hold those responsible and now, seven months later, it appears the wheels of justice are starting to move in that direction.
