Tim Tebow released from New york jets Monday morning. Tim Tebow was released by the NY Jets Monday morning after the NFL player was with the team for one year. TMZ reports April 29 that Tebow must now go through a series of waivers. Teams have until Tuesday 4 p.m., ET to put claims on him, according to USA Today.
Jets head coach, Rex Ryan, released this statement:
"We have a great deal of respect for Tim Tebow. Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped. Tim is an extremely hard worker, evident by the shape he came back in this offseason (losing weight). We wish him the best moving forward." Examiner reported
Tebow threw eight passes last season and the trade cost the Jets $4 million. His career is said to hinge on being a quarterback. He handled a lot of roles as a player for the Jets, including pass protector, punt protector, wide receiver and even H-back. He wasn't used as a tailback, but that was one of the Jets' plans for him.
The decision to fire Tebow came after the Jets signed on Geno Smith last week as another quarterback for the team. It seems the team figured they didn't need him anymore and felt good with the new roster.
