It was inevitable that some celebrities would turn into
comedians as they tried to pull off a series of tricks and jokes on
April Fools' Day.
Leading the way with the poor pranks was actress Sheridan Smith who made some of her followers on Twitter believe she had bagged a prestigious new role.
The Gavin & Stacey star, 31, told people that she had won the female lead in 50 Shades Of Grey.
However, the joke didn't last long and after just 15 minutes she revealed her previous post was one big April Fools prank.
She tweeted: 'I'm crying laughing that some of u actually fell for that! Especially amused by @fountain1987 @louiespence & @Ecclestonshire :D love ya's!!!'
Everyone's favourite X Factor reject Rylan Clark got in on the action by claiming he was making a dramatic return to the show which made him famous.
He
posted: 'So happy to finally announce I'm a judge on this years
@TheXFactor !!!! Want to wish @GBarlowOfficial good luck and hope I do
his seat proud'.
While Rylan didn't follow up with an announcement that his claim was fake, his ambitions were obviously intended as a joke.
Glamour model Jodie Marsh also added some mischief to proceedings as she tried to convince the public she had fake tan straight from a tin.
The bodybuilding star said: 'My fake tan best kept secret - Tanseal from @Ronseal Does exactly what it says on the tin!!', and accompanied it with a picture of the fictional product.
The cast of Hollyoaks would have been as surprised as their fans to learn that the soap was getting turned into a musical.
Spice Girl Geri Halliwell claimed that she was due to release some new material and was moving away from the pop sound she was famous for.
Geri tweeted: 'Brand new im heading in a slash metal rap direction ,covering 'N -gers in Paris' Kanye loves my version , but told me to stop swearing?'
The
Saturdays very unconvincingly said that they were changing their group
name to The Fridays, while X Factor alumni Lucy Spraggan claimed she was
getting married to Rylan.
Former TOWIE star Maria Fowler did not join in the banter, but her boyfriend James Morgan did try and stitch her up late in the day.
The owner of stiltonbutchers.co.uk hijacked her account and declared that she was going scuba diving on Tuesday.
However, always a step ahead of her man, Maria quickly noticed the prank and tweeted: 'I am not scuba diving tomorrow. That's James thinking he is funny. Nothing else more to say on the matter'.
