Survivor rescued from Bangladesh clothing factory rubble three days after collapse
Despite lacking modern equipment, emergency services have not given up hope of finding others alive.

Rescuers dramatically pluck a badly hurt worker alive from the rubble three days after the collapse of the clothing factory in Bangladesh.Around 300 of the 3,000 workers died when the Rana Plaza complex in Dhaka collapsed.Despite lacking modern equipment, emergency services have not given up hope of finding others alive.Today there were reports 50 more survivors had been reached via tunnels dug by rescuers during the search.Official Maj Gen Chowdhury Hasan Suhrawardy said operations would continue tomorrow.He said: “We know a human being can survive for up to 72 hours in this situation – so our efforts will go on non-stop.”Hundreds of locals protested today after it was claimed workers were told to continue making garments for western markets despite the structure being unsafe.Police used tear-gas and rubber bullets to disperse the demonstrators, who had earlier pelted the officers with stones for refusing to let them get close to the site.Primark used a supplier in the building – and campaign groups will tomorrow gather outside the UK retailer’s flagship store on Oxford Street in Central London.Organisers, War on Want, insist Primark should pay compensation to relatives of the dead.The charity’s Murray Worthy said: “These deaths could have been avoided.”
