Strictly Come Dancing champion Kara Tointon sat for a portrait
by controversial artist Jack Vettriano because she wanted to explore her
‘sinful’ side.
The former EastEnders star says she had no qualms about working with Vettriano, whose erotically charged art explores the darker side of human sexuality.
She said: ‘I suppose secretly I’d quite like a dark oomphy picture by Jack. I would say the dark side, the seven sins side.’
The actress, who won the BBC’s dance competition in 2010, is shown trying on different outfits for a photographic shoot from which the artist will work.
In
the finished painting Tointon dons a Fifties turban and burgundy
coloured two-piece suit and strikes a seductive pose alongside an Aston
Martin car.
He said: ‘I once had a relationship with somebody I shouldn’t have had a relationship with.
'And we used to meet and we both used to drive to a certain spot and one day she just never turned up. I want Kara to play the role I was playing at that point in time.’

artist: Jack Vettriano, left, has created some of British art's most
popular and accessible pieces, such as Let's Twist Again, right, which
was painted in 2010 for First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond's
Christmas card
Although popular with the public,
Vettriano has often struggled to win the backing of art critics and has
been accused of plagiarising figures from art instruction manuals.
In the programme What Do Artists Do All Day? he hits back at what he calls the ‘breathtaking arrogance’ of his detractors.
