Player dies snake bite, of the Venomous snake. an Australian field hockey player died after being bitten by a snake and then going for a run, which worked at pumping the venom through his system faster. Not knowing that the snake that just bit him on the hand was a venomous king brown snake, Karl Berry took off for a run with the team feeling fine, according to Yahoo News on April 26, 2013.
While out on the run, Berry collapsed and when the paramedics got to him he was still conscious. Not realizing that the little bite could have anything to do with his collapse, he didn't mention it to the paramedics until after they were with him for about 15 minutes.
Berry died on Wednesday. He first came across the snake while cleaning up at Marrara Hockey Center in Darwin, Northern Territory in Australia on Tuesday. He picked up the snake and threw it into the bushes, thinking it was a non-venomous python. It was at this time the snake grabbed hold of his hand and bit him.
Going for that run sped up the venom through his body and not mentioning the snake bite to the paramedics right away worked against him. Berry was the captain of the Commerce-Pints hockey team.
