Afternoon tea used to be associated with curly sandwiches and visits with grandma, but its revival as a trendy way to meet for business and pleasure in high end hotels and restaurants across the country has meant for a distinctly modern makeover.
Now one club is offering some va va voom alongside the traditional scones and cream.
Volupte Lounge in London offers high tea every Saturday, aptly named the Afternoon Tease, complete with a glass of champagne and a fruity Burlesque show.

Nipple tassels and high octane glamour are the latest way to take your high tea in London
Dancers dressed in traditional 1920s style corseted costumes perform while you enjoy your tea, teasing with the seductive style of dance which involves slowly stripping off items of clothing.
The 1920’s is evoked not only by the dance troupes who go by names like Gracie and the G spots and the Kitten Club, but also by the service staff who are dressed in opulent period costumes as they serve you.
While the surroundings may be unusual, the food itself is exactly what you would expect from the mid-afternoon meal.
Costing £49 per person the afternoon tea at Volupte includes selection of finger sandwiches, warm scones, homemade jam, clotted cream, homemade patisseries, a choice of fine teas and a glass of bubbly.
They describe the experience as: An exciting selection of some of the best burlesque artists and singers, a live band, a touch of magic and delicious afternoon tea.’
Not surprisinly its already proving popular with stags and hens.
The club, which describes itself as ‘the most decadent little supper club in town’, also features the ‘Bon Bon bar’ restaurant and runs burlesque classes for those who wish to try the dance at home.
