Leaving no stone unturned! Homeless man's incredible 6,800-mile

A homeless artist has walked the entire coast of the United Kingdom creating incredible pebble sculptures on 44 beaches from the South coast to Scotland.

Dr Geebers - as he prefers to be known - spent two and a half years walking an estimated 6,800 miles around the coast sleeping rough and shifting 1000 tonnes of pebbles.

He started in Brighton in 2009 and finished at the end of 2011, he has now returned to Brighton to create his 'biggest artwork yet' featuring rock band including lead singer, pianist and drummer on a stage.

He has so far spent 23 days on the sculpture and has created an audience from rocks and a banner which will eventually read 'Brighton Rocks 2013'.

Dr Greebers, 37, originally from Ballymena in Northern Ireland, said: 'My inspiration was the Mods and Rockers, it is coming up to the 40th anniversary of that movement in Brighton and I wanted to do something musical.

'I like Brighton and everything it stands for and it makes sense to do my best piece of work where it all started.

'Lyme Regis has the stone balancing artist, Weymouth has sand sculptors so why can't Brighton have a pebble artist?

'I would like a permanent spot in Brighton to do my art. Somewhere near the pier so people riding the wheel on the seafront could look down and see it. It would be a great tourist attraction. I'd like local people to get behind me and support this.'

His love of creating pebble artwork started four years ago after a drunken bet when a friend told him he couldn't create a Yin and Yang symbol out of pebbles.

He has since created a vast portfolio of sculptures around the country including a six-ft dragon in Llanddulas, Wales and a Formula One car in Skegness as well as a Scottish flag north of the border and lobsters and crabs in Sheringham, Norfolk.

He even made a Nessie sculpture at Loch Ness - the only inland beach Dr Greebers used.
Dr Greebers lives on the donations he gets for his art and does not claim benefits.

He said: 'I left Brighton with nothing, I just started walking. When I got to Littlehampton I did a sculpture then I just kept moving and creating pebble art as I went.

'Part of the reason I did it was to raise awareness of homeless people and also to change the public's perception of people that are homeless. I wanted to raise money to donate to charity but I was just living hand to mouth.'

Dr Greebers said he hopes in the future he will be able to use his art to help homeless people who may not have access to art by getting them involved with collecting pebbles and creating the pictures.
