If you think you've seen it all before, it's because you probably have! The TV and movie costumes that have been repeatedly recycled over the years

Think you’ve seen that costume before? Odds are, you have.

The sartorial sleuths over at Recycled Movie Costumes have dug through decades of television shows, movies, promotions, and miniseries to see where a costume has popped up – again, and again, and again.

The result is a fascinating look into the reprised roles played by these dresses, coats, and other costumes.

Who, what, wear: This Elizabethan collar, called a whisk, was made for the 2005 production The Virgin Queen

Queen bee: However, Beyonce added some R&B flair to the whisk in a television commercial for O2 Priority in 2013

Strike a pose: Glenn Close wore this gown in 1998's 'Dangerous Liaisons,' left, and Madonna wore it four years later to perform on the MTV Music Awards to perform 'Vogue'

In 2006, worn in 'Marie Antoinette'

From the 1999 mini-series 'Aristocrats'

From a 2012 episode of 'Horrible Histories'

Josie grossie: This fanciful ballgown, seen on Drew Barrymore in the 1999 film 'Never Been Kissed,' left, was used again in 2009 in the Taylor Swift music video 'Love Story' by an extra dancing at a ball, right

In many cases and especially in period pieces, costumes can be used over and over again. This is best seen in the rococo dress worn in the 1999 miniseries ‘Aristocrats,’ in 2006’s ‘Marie Antoinette,’ and most recently in 2012’s ‘Horrible Histories.’

In addition, the site notes that many movies and TV programs have low budgets for costumes, meaning that to appear authentic, ornate dresses with beadwork and other detailing cannot be made from scratch for each particular project.

The site’s creator notes that she most often finds Georgian and Elizabethan costumes doing double duty, as that is the time period that most interests her.

‘I don’t have any advice for spotting recycled costumes aside from the fact that once you do find your first one, you’ll be able to find others much more easily,’ she writes.

Eagle-eyed viewers email her with tips, and if they check out, they are put on the sight.

Luxurious: The coat that has seen two separate Anna Kareninas

Edwardian beauties: This intricate Edwardian beaded black gown was worn by Michelle Dockery's Lady Mary in 'Downton Abbey' in 2010, and was then sported by Geraldine Somerville as the Countess of Manton in Julian Fellowes' other writing project, 'Titanic' last year

The other woman: This costume, first seen in 1990 on Cathryn Harrison as Violet Keppel in 'Portrait of a Marriage,' was used again in 2011 in 'Downton Abbey' on Zoe Boyle as Lavinia Swire

Fiddle-dee-dee: This 'Goodbye Ashley' dress, made for the 1939 film 'Gone with the Wind,' was again used This in 1944 on an extra in 'Can't Help Singing.' Both films had costumes designed by Walter Plunkett
