How the brutal acid attack of a husky prompted a new 'Logan's Law'

A Michigan man whose beloved husky was attacked with battery acid has pushed for the state to create a registry of animal abusers.

Two bills, dubbed 'Logan's Law' after the dog that inspired it, were introduced in the Michigan House of Representatives because of the petition started by dog owner Matt Falk.

Mr Falk was pushed into action when he came out of his house in Goodells, Michigan to let his 11-year-old husky out of his outdoor kennel, only to find that someone had attacked the dog overnight.

After: Even though his owners took him to the vet just hours after the attack, medications could not stop the damage from spreading for the next three days

The incident took place in March 2011, but it took over a year to gather last year, but it took time for the bills to gain enough political momentum to be put into action.

'On the night of March 12 I put Logan my 11-year-old husky in his kennel where he like to spend his nights,' Mr Falk said in a Facebook post on the page he created to spread the word about the attack.

'During the night an unknown person attacked Logan in his kennel with is what to be believed to be battery acid blinding him & burning his face severely.

'I found him the next morning about 9 A.M. & rushed him to the vet where he was treated. Because of the nature of the substance it could not be neutralized right away & continued to burn for 3 more days.'

Still fresh: It was thought that someone sprayed the dog with battery acid for some unknown reason

Scene: Logan was kept in an outdoor kennel 'that he liked to sleep in' and that is where the attack occurred

Logan was released from the vet and treated with medication which eventually helped ease the spread of the damage.

That said, the intense dosages did different kinds of damage to the older dog's internal organs, specifically it's liver and kidneys.

'On July 9 Logan curled up at my feet as he always did while I worked on his page and went to sleep. when it was his supper time I placed his food in front of him but got no reaction..... He had passed away very peacefully in his sleep with his head resting on my foot,' Mr Falk wrote on Facebook.

Horrific: The incident spurred Logan's owners into action and now a bill may be put into effect in Michigan forcing animal abusers to register with the state and banning them from adopting animals at shelters

The perpetrator was never found, and no one has been charged in the attack.

Now, following a social media campaign that reached out to animal lovers across the state, the two bills will require people convicted of animal abuse to sign up with a state-wide registry.

They would be barred from adopting animals from shelters.

‘Even though Logans attack was a terrible thing, we have a chance to turn this into something positive for animals all over the state, maybe even the country. Every fire starts from a single spark,’ Mr Falk said on the Change.org petition for the cause.
