Hoarder, 68, missing for two months is found 'mummified' under a pile of trash in her apartment

A 68-year-old hoarder who was reported missing in February has been found partially mummified under a pile of trash, clothing and blankets in her apartment, police said.
Alice Klee, from New Milford, New Jersey, was last seen on February 8, and police and relatives had carried out extensive searches for her in the area.
Even though neighbors described her as 'reclusive' and authorities carried out several checks of the home with K-9 units, her body was not found.
Over the weekend, Klee's landlord obtained permission to clear out her apartment after she had failed to pay rent for months. He discovered her body when he was cleaning the home.
Police described her state as 'partially mummified', the North Jersey Record reported.
'He located the body under a pile of trash, clothing and blankets between the bed and window,' Police Chief Frank Papapietro said.
A family member told the Record that Klee was 'a hoarder.'
The Bergen County Medical Examiner said that Klee had died of natural causes, Papapietro said.
The discovery comes after a months-long search by authorities.

Police said in March that searches of her apartment turned up her wallet, cell phone and keys. She lived with numerous cats, who were suffering with starvation, and one was found dead.
Neighbors said they were shocked to learn of her disappearance as she kept to a very exact routine each day - moving her car, rifling through bins and feeding stray animals in the area.

Another neighbor added that it was unlikely she would have left her beloved cats alone.
Her bank account and cell phone were not used after she was last seen on February 8. Her car was found outside her home and police said all they could do was 'sit back and wait'.
But family members said they were skeptical about the search.
'I told the police multiple times, "Are you sure she's not in there?"' a relative told the Record. 'He said we would smell it. I was in there and I did not smell anything.'
Papapietro said that Klee had not received treatment for any mental illness or disorder, and that no criminal activity was suspected in her death.
'It is a very, very sad situation,' he said.
