"The church said in the statement Ebert used his Twitter account 'to mock the faithful servants of God at Westboro Baptist Church.' The group also called Ebert a 'f-g enabler' and 'entertainment industry publicity leech,'" NBC News reported. Very familiar with protests, the Westboro Baptist Church planned to picket "in lawful proximity" of the Holy Name Cathedral where Ebert's services will be held.
The Ebert funeral protest is making headline news across the country today. The acclaimed film critic was loved by so many people and he fought a hard, brave fight against cancer. Still this means nothing to church members who felt bullied by Ebert in some ways. Ebert's funeral did take place on Monday morning at 10 a.m.
Thus far there have not been any updates about the Westboro Baptist's Church protest. They likely didn't cause any kind of trouble, but it's safe to say that mourners did not appreciate the protest in any way.
The Ebert funeral protest followed reports that Roger Ebert called the group "odious." Ebert died on April 4 at the age of 70.
