As the suave Don Draper, he cuts a sophisticated figure - impeccably dressed with a commanding presence as the creative genius behind advertising agency Sterling, Cooper, Draper, Pryce.
But Jon Hamm wasn't always as polished as his Mad Men alter ego.
New photographs of the star during his high school years show him looking rather goofy, sporting an array of 1980s fashions.

One
year book shot of the 42-year-old actor shows him wearing a baseball
cap over a floppy fringe, pulling a goofy face in the middle of two
classmates. Another photograph features him larking around with a second group of school friends sporting baggy jeans, a puffy jacket and unlaced trainers - Don Draper would perish the thought.
And it seems the actor was also interested in sports - he was a classic jock and is pictured on the football field in full kit - he was apparently also on the baseball and swim teams.

The Town star made his stage début as Winnie the Pooh and at 16-years-old, he was cast as Judas in Godspell while attending the private John Burroughs School in Ladue, Missouri.
He graduated from the institution in 1989, and was once described by sportscaster Joe Buck, who knew him in his teenage years as 'the cool guy in high school.
Buck told Men's Health back in 2010: 'He's not the before-and-after pictures where he was the nerd in high school with tape on his glasses. He was always the guy you noticed.'
While Jon spent most of his time catching and throwing on the various athletic teams, he dabbled a little in acting.

The actor told the Waterloo Region Record, in 2008: 'Acting was fun, but my grandfather would always tell me, "It's never too late to be an engineer."
'You were supposed to get a "job" and do acting on weekends or at school.'
After high school, Hamm attended the University of Texas until his father's untimely death when he was just 20-years-old. His mother Deborah passed away from cancer when he was ten.

After graduating in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, Hamm returned to his high school to teach acting for two years before heading to Hollywood to pursue his larger ambitions.
But his Mad Men co-star January Jones could not have been more different during those formative years - as she identified herself as a hippie.
Hamm's former onscreen wife, January, grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and worked at the local Dairy Queen.

Her father Marv reminisced with People magazine about his daughter's typical teenage years getting into harmless trouble: 'One night she went out the basement window. Our dog was barking, which got her caught. Next time, she tried taking the dog with her.'
After graduating high school, January headed to New York City to try her luck at acting and modelling.
She has said of the experience: 'Everything was a culture shock. The people were different, the sights were different, the food was different... I was experiencing a freedom I hadn't before.'
