William Campbell thought daughter Krystle, 29, was alive until he walked into the hospital room and found her friend in the bed instead
Victim: Krystle Campbell was killed
The father of a tragic victim of the Boston Marathon bombings has told of his heartbreak after doctors mistook her for her friend and wrongly told him his girl was alive. Krystle Campbell, 29, was last night named as the second victim of the blast, which killed three people and injured more than 170 others. Heartbroken father William Campbell has told how his family believed she was alive for 12 hours until they discovered the devastating truth. The 56-year-old said: “I nearly passed out on the floor. She was the best person you could ever meet.” Krystle, from Arlington, Massachusetts, who was watching her boyfriend run the marathon with a friend. Mr Campbell described his daughter, who worked for a restaurant consultancy firm, as a "wonderful, wonderful girl". He told reporters: "She helped everybody, and I'm just so shocked right now. We're just devastated.
"She was a wonderful, wonderful girl. Always willing to lend a hand."

The Chinese consulate in New York said this morning that the third victim was one of its citizens, a Boston University graduate student, named by Chinese media as Lu Lingzi. The White House said last night that president Barack Obama will travel to Boston tomorrow to speak at a service dedicated to those killed and more than 170 injured, including 17 critically, by the explosions. Mr Obama has confirmed the FBI is investigating the tragedy as an act of terrorism, as police recovered fragments of black nylon that may been from a bag used to conceal one or both of the bombs. Speaking at a press conference, he said: "This was a heinous and cowardly act. The FBI is now investigating this as an act of terrorism." He added: "The American people refused to be terrorised. What the world saw yesterday in the aftermath of the explosions were stories of heroism and kindness and generosity and love." Richard DesLauriers, the special agent in charge of the Boston FBI office, said there would be a "worldwide investigation". "We will go to the ends of the earth to find the subject or subjects responsible for this despicable crime," he said. There were no immediate claims of responsibility for the attack, the most serious in the US since the 9/11 atrocity. The Pakistani Taliban, which has threatened attacks in the US because of its support for the Pakistani government, denied any role. The Boston Marathon is one of the world's oldest and most prestigious and about 23,000 runners took part, including hundreds from the UK and Ireland. Scores of victims were hurt, many suffering shrapnel wounds, in the two explosions which were caused by bombs believed to be stashed in bins nearby. It is understood the explosive devices were made of pressure cookers packed with metal and ball bearings. London Marathon organisers said their event will go ahead on Sunday as planned with the support of the Metropolitan Police and mayor Boris Johnson. Met Police commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe said security around Baroness Thatcher's funeral and the marathon will be stepped up. "We are reviewing our plans which is sensible, but our reassurance is that we will keep people in London safe," he said. "We will increase searching, we will make sure we've got more officers on the street looking after people, making sure they're safe. "We've no reason to think they're any less safe than they were before the terrible events in Boston."
