Boston favourite Neil Diamond writes new song dedicated

Neil Diamond has written a new song paying homage to the city of Boston and the victims of the terrorist attack there.

The star, whose hit Sweet Caroline is played at every Red Sox home game, has been inspired by the tragic events last week which saw three people killed and more than 170 injured.

On Saturday, he made a surprising appearance at the first Fenway Park game since the marathon bombings to sing the song which has become an anthem of defiance in the face of terror.

Although he himself is from New York, the veteran rock 'n' roller has been associated with Boston since the tradition of playing Sweet Caroline in the eighth inning of baseball games in the city started in 1997.

Mr Diamond said that the Boston bombing was just the latest in a series of horrific events, such as the Sandy Hook shooting, which had spurred him to make music once again.

It is unclear when the song, which does not yet have a title, will be released.

However, the musician has wasted no time in recording his composition.
